This is a plain-English starting point, not professional legal advice, and hasn't been reviewed by a solicitor. It's written to accurately describe how FindTheCool actually works today.

What FindTheCool is

FindTheCool is a free, community-run directory of air-conditioned and otherwise cooled venues in the UK. Cooling ratings are built entirely from visitors confirming and rating venues — we don't independently verify every listing, so treat ratings as community opinion, not a guarantee. Always check with a venue directly if reliable air conditioning matters for your visit.

Your account

• You must be old enough to lawfully hold an account in your country, and provide accurate information when you sign up.
• You're responsible for anything posted from your account, so keep your password secure.
• Every account needs a username, shown publicly next to your contributions — don't impersonate someone else or use it for anything abusive or misleading.
• We can suspend or remove an account that breaches these terms, including for spam, abuse, or repeatedly submitting false information.

Submitting venues, confirmations, photos and comments

By submitting a venue, a cooling confirmation, a comment, or a photo, you agree that:

• It's accurate and genuinely your own honest contribution, not spam, advertising, or copied from elsewhere.
• For photos specifically: you took the photo yourself, and you're happy for FindTheCool to display it on the site and in social share previews (e.g. link previews for the venue).
• You grant FindTheCool a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, resize and format your submitted text and photos as part of the site — you keep ownership of what you submit, and can ask us to remove it any time by emailing admin@findthecool.com.
• Submissions go through admin moderation before appearing publicly; we can reject, edit, or remove any submission at our discretion (e.g. for accuracy, appropriateness, or if a venue reports a problem with it).

Points, ranks, badges and friend groups

Points, leaderboard positions, rank badges and achievement badges are for fun and recognition only — they have no monetary value, can't be transferred, sold or redeemed, and may be adjusted or reset if we find they were earned through abuse of the system.

Copyright & content ownership

The FindTheCool name, logo, and site design are owned by FindTheCool. Venue names, addresses and similar factual details aren't anyone's property. If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright — including a photo you own that someone else uploaded without permission — email admin@findthecool.com with a description of the content and its location on the site, and we'll investigate and remove it if appropriate.

For venue owners: requesting changes or removal

If you own or manage a venue listed on FindTheCool and want to correct its details, add an official photo, or have it removed from the directory entirely, email admin@findthecool.com with the venue's name and location and what you'd like changed. As a small, single-admin project we handle these manually rather than through a self-service tool, but we aim to action genuine venue-owner requests promptly.

No warranty

FindTheCool is provided "as is". We don't guarantee that any venue's cooling rating, opening status, or other details are accurate or current at the time you visit — always check with the venue directly, especially before travelling any distance.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, FindTheCool isn't liable for any loss or inconvenience arising from relying on information found on the site, including an inaccurate or outdated cooling rating, venue detail, or a venue no longer existing.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site evolves; the date at the top of this page reflects the latest version. Continuing to use FindTheCool after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
